What NOT to wear to your photoshoot (but seriously, wear whatever you want)

Look, I’m not here to tell you what to wear to your photoshoot.

(Are you confused already? Don't be keep reading)

Because your branding is about you. If I told you to wear a pink suit and dance like no ones watching, and your vibe is more minimalist-cool-neutral-earthy-zen, you’d probably never forgive me. And fair enough – I’m a photographer, not a personal stylist from The Devil Wears Prada.

But here’s what I will say:

Jess rocking it in Hot Pink!
Jess rocking it in Hot Pink!

Please don’t rock up in your pyjamas (unless, of course, you’re a sleep consultant – in which case, pyjamas and under-eye bags are practically your brand colours).

Please don’t show up in that jumper you’ve owned since Year 9 camp with the mysterious stain that’s been there longer than some relationships. Unless your brand is “I live in a van and make sourdough from scratch with my rescue goat,” then go ahead, live your truth.

And please, for the love of Tim Tams, don’t wear something that makes you feel like an uncomfortable sausage roll. If you’re tugging, scratching, adjusting, and worried about pit stains the whole shoot – it will show in your photos faster than I can say, “chin forward, drop the shoulder.”

At the end of the day (and the start of your shoot), what you wear is up to you. Your brand is yours to express. I can’t tell you who to be. I can’t tell you what to wear. And honestly, if I did, I’d probably get it wrong – because you know your business better than I ever could.

What I can tell you is this...

  • Show up like you care.

  • Show up like you actually want to be hired.

  • Show up like you value your business, your brand, and yourself – because your potential clients will sense it. When they see that you care, they'll know you'll care about them too.

So whether you’re in a floral maxi, black turtleneck, rainbow suit, or your pyjamas (sleep consultants only – no exceptions) – wear it like you mean it.

Because the real “what not to wear” is an attitude of not caring.

And that, my friend, clashes with absolutely everything.
