How To Prepare For Your Team Headshots (so the day is easy and you love your photo)

Team headshot day is designed to be quick, relaxed and surprisingly painless — I promise. A little bit of preparation makes a huge difference to how confident you feel and how polished the final images look.
Here are a few simple tips to help everything run smoothly.
Bring Your Outfit On A Hanger
If you’re travelling to work, don’t wear the shirt or blazer you’re being photographed in. Sitting in the car or at your desk can leave it creased before we even start.
Bring it on a hanger and get changed just before your turn — it makes a big difference in photos.
Sleeves Are Your Friend
For headshots, the crop is usually from around the waist up, which means your upper arms are more prominent than you might expect.
Choosing a top or shirt with sleeves (short or long) helps keep the focus on your face and creates a more balanced, polished look. Not a strict rule — just a very good one.
Hair And Makeup
If you have time to have your hair and makeup done professionally beforehand, that’s always a lovely option.
If not, simply:
wash your hair the day before
keep makeup natural and true to how you normally look at work
The goal is for you to look like yourself on your best day — not like you’re heading to a formal event.
Wear Something That Feels Like "Work You"
Choose an outfit you’d normally wear to meet a client or attend an important meeting.
Solid colours usually photograph best, and avoiding large logos or very busy patterns helps keep the attention on your face.
Take Two Minutes To Look At Your Photographers Work
Every photographer shoots a little differently.
Having a quick look through my Portfolio gallery on my website (or even reading a few Google reviews) will give you a feel for how relaxed and natural the session will be — which helps you walk in feeling much more comfortable.
Don't Worry About Posing
This is the biggest one.
You are not expected to know what to do.
I will guide you the entire time — where to stand, what to do with your hands, how to angle your body and your face toward the light.
And a little behind-the-scenes secret: often the best photo happens in the moment after a pose, when you relax. So you don’t need to “perform” — you just need to show up.
Glasses, Grooming & Small Details
If you wear glasses all the time, wear them for your photo — it’s how people recognise you.
A quick check for:
lint on clothing
freshly shaved or neatly groomed facial hair
clean nails
lip balm for dry lips
goes a long way in a close-up image.
And most importantly…
You don’t have to be “photogenic.”You don’t have to know your angles. You don’t have to practise your smile in the mirror.
My job is to make this easy for you and create a photo that feels natural, approachable and professional.
All you need to do is show up — I’ll take care of the rest.
